Question:
Why are some NovaWorld games called campaigns?

Answer:
A campaign is a collection of maps that are tied together by a thematic element. For example, an Island Campaign is a collection of maps that take place on islands. A campaign may also consist of more than one game type. A game can start as a Team King of the Hill, but after the round ends, it becomes a Team Deathmatch game.

If a game is not specified as being a 'Campaign', then all maps in that game will be the same game type.
