Question:
What is Team Balancing and how does it work?

Answer:
Team balancing is an advance host option that will take players from one team and place them on another if the teams become unbalanced.  The balancing function occurs when the map cycles.  Players are moved to the smaller team based on how long they have been in the game.  The players who have been in for the least amount of time are moved first.

There are three lines in the game.cfg file that relate to this feature.

autobalanceonmissionrecycleenabled =

autobalanceonmissionrecyclenumplayerdiffmin =

autobalanceonmissionrecyclenumplayerdiffmax =

Setting the first line to equal 1 will turn on this feature. The next two lines can be used to set the values that need to be met in order for the balancing feature to activate. These values are set to a difference of one by default.

In addition to the “Balance on mission cycle” options, there are options to keep a game balanced as people join. These options will only be used if one or both teams are protected by a password. The options in the game.cfg file are:

balance_join = 1

balance_join_percent = 50

When enabled (balance_join set to 1), this option will keep the teams balanced (based on the ratio set by balance_join_percent) as players join. If one or both teams are password protected, several players may try to join the same team at once, thus throwing off the team balance. This option forces these players to wait in a queue until a player of the opposite team joins.
